Lecture on New Deal Federal Art Projects
The second lecture in conjunction with Indiana Statue University's show of WPA art will be given by Jim Zimmer, the director of the Lockport Gallery in the Illinois State Museum. His lecture is titled “Work·People·Art: Federal Art Projects and the Great Depression.” It will be at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 22, 2011, in the Music Recital Hall across from the University Art Gallery.

 

Lecture on New Deal Projects in Indiana
Glory-June Greiff, Indianapolis Public Historian, will speak on “What a Deal for Indiana: The WPA, PWA, and CCC Around the State” at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 8, 2011. The lecture will be in the Music Recital Hall across from the University Art Gallery at Indiana State University.

The University Art Gallery at Indiana State will exhibit WPA art Aug. 22–Sept. 24, 2011, in a show titled “Faith, Fear and Failure: Selections from Indiana State University's WPA Art Collection.” Among the 54 artists on display are: Ida Abelman, Jolan Bettelheim, Stuart Davis, Mabel Dwight, Ernest Fiene, Paul Kelpe, Helen Lundeberg, Nan Lurie, Dorothy Rutka, Joseph Stella, and Dox Thrash. Complimentary exhibition catalogs and WPA Christmas cards are available in the gallery.

The gallery is open Monday–Friday 11 a.m.–4 p.m. and Thursdays 11 a.m.–7 p.m. It will also be open Saturday, Sept. 24 for ISU Family Day from 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

Two lectures will be held in conjunction with the exhibit (see below). The exhibit and lectures are free and open to the public.
