“The CCC should be reactivated!” This is the plea from many of the CCC chapters and individuals. “A CCC type organization could be an emergency force to respond to disasters in this country and possibly be part of the Homeland Security Department and other conservation projects,” noted Walter Atwood, NACCCA President. It will surely be a major item on the upcoming national annual reunion that is will be held Sept. 28-30 in White Rock Lake Park in Dallas which is the site of Co. #2896.
Atwood also reported that CCC memorabilia stored at the NACCCA Headquarters at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis have been moved to the Smithsonian since the current building is in very bad condition and is not able to provide proper archives. Current activities and materials of the organization will continue at the present location (16 Hancock Ave. Jefferson Barracks) until such time as a new, affordable home in the Washington area can be found. This is the goal thereby making it possible for members who come to visit the Washington, DC area can visit both headquarters and the Smithsonian CCC archives.
